The Board of Directors are involved members of FilmPEI who are open to hearing ideas and suggestions from the wider membership. The board can be reached at board@filmpei.com.

Berni Wood – President

Berni Wood is an international award-winning photographer, producer, line producer, production manager, and location manager based in Charlottetown, P.E.I. She has overseen all aspects of logistics and operations for film, television and tv commercials, including pre-production, production, post-production, and delivery. Berni has produced work for the Banff Television Foundation, the Liberal Party of Canada, York University, Carnival Cruise Lines, and Maxine MacLennan, among others. She currently has a co-production in development with Diane Barnes.

 

Luc Trottier – Vice President

Luc Trottier is a writer, producer, director, and actor on Prince Edward Island. With his company Human Moves Media Luc has created the short films, “In My Heart” (CBC Gem/Film4Ward), “Finale” (CBC Gem/Film4Ward), and “Currie” (Billy the Kid Festival, Best Western Short). Luc is the creator of “The Community Players,” a comedy series on P.E.I. with two seasons streaming on Bell FibeTV1. He has multiple projects in development with the IPF/CMF/Bell and CBC Gem. www.humanmovesmedia.com

 

Tianyi Yu – Treasurer

Tianyi (Tina) Yu is a Canadian professional accountant – manager at Fitzpatrick and Company and has worked in the industry for eight years. Tina joined FilmPEI’s Board of Directors in 2020.

 

Cathy Grant – Secretary

Cathy Grant is a Proud Islander who has worked in the film and television industry in Atlantic Canada for 30 years. Cathy has worked in the Production department on scores of feature films, TV movies and series. A long time member of the DGC, Cathy has mostly worked as a Production Coordinator, Assistant Production Manager and Line Producer for 5 seasons of The Curse of Oak Island. Other notable productions include Emily of New Moon, Diggstown (including season 4 which shot in Charlottetown), The Lighthouse, etc. Cathy lives on the North Shore of PEI with her husband and dog.

 

Charlotte Engel – Member at Large

Charlotte Engel is a producer and a former broadcaster with over 25 years of experience in film and television. While at CBC, she oversaw CBC’s cutting edge documentary strands Firsthand and CBC Docs POV. Many of these documentaries won multiple awards ( “Indictment: The Crimes of Shelley Chartier”, “Nipawistamasowin: We Will Stand Up” and “The Skin We’re In”). As a producer of documentaries for Rock Yenta Productions, she brought docs to CBC, TVO and the Documentary Channel. She won a CSA for “My Millennial Life” and a Golden Sheaf award for “Mugshot”. Engel currently is on the board of Charlottetown Film Society, and is on the Yorkton Film Festival programming committee. She has previously sat on the boards of Hot Docs, DOC Ontario and imagineNATIVE.

 

Daniel Ohaegbu – Member at Large

Daniel Ohaegbu is the co-founder and Executive Director of the Atlantic Student Development Alliance (ASDA). He is a leader in Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion, as well as Anti-Racism (EDI-AR). His approach to transforming organizations and systems is personal, interpersonal, and systemic. Daniel navigates through academia, industry, and community organizations to help them embrace change and create inclusive cultures that will endure. When not working with ASDA, you can find Daniel running or wielding the mic as a dynamic emcee at various community events, collaborating, and supporting community partners. Daniel is honoured to be recognized as one of the Black Changemakers of Prince Edward Island in 2023.

 

Devon Ross – Member at Large

Devon Ross is an award winning location sound recordist, post-production sound engineer, and film composer who works full time in the P.E.I. film industry with his business Thin Slice Media since 2017. He is passionate about growing the film community, committed to excellence in his work, and loves a good cat snuggle.

 

Jessie Duarte – Member at Large

Jessie Duarte is a versatile and visionary filmmaker who has worked as an Assistant Director on over 40 projects in the past five years. From narrative films to unscripted tv, Jessie has a knack for nurturing stories to life on the screen. She has collaborated with some of the most talented and diverse artists in P.E.I., growing meaningful relationships in the process. Jessie is also a passionate artist who enjoys exploring different medias of expression in film, tv, and live theater. She aims to create meaningful and impactful art that reflects her vision and values as she flourishes as a filmmaker, fulfilling her cherished childhood dreams.

 

Meaghan Brander – Member at Large (ex-officio, non-voting)

Meaghan Brander is a cultural programmer and media executive with over 15 years of experience working in the Canadian entertainment industry. She currently works in film sector development with the Government of Prince Edward Island, where she oversees the P.E.I. Film Production Fund and works to promote the Island as a destination for film and television production. Meaghan’s storied background includes roles with the Toronto International Film Festival and Cineplex Entertainment, where she specialized in theatrical distribution, marketing and audience development. Meaghan has collaborated with arts organizations, film festivals and media companies globally and helped connect communities across Canada with exceptional entertainment.
