Short Fiction Screenwriting with Bretten Hannam
October 19, 2019 @ 10:00 am - October 20, 2019 @ 4:00 pm

Bretten Hannam is a Two-Spirit filmmaker of Mi’kmaw, Ojibwe, and Scottish ancestry living in Kespukwitk, Mi’kma’ki (Nova Scotia) where he was raised. His films deal with themes of community, culture, language, and tradition with a focus on Two-Spirit / LGBTQ and gender identity. He is a Fellow of the Praxis Centre for Screenwriters, Outfest Screenwriting Lab, and the Canadian Film Centre’s Screenwriting Lab. Bretten is an instructor as NSCADU and for AFCOOP’s Film5 program. Over the weekend he will be taking creators through the entire writing process. We encourage those from the Indigenous and LGBTQ+ communities to take this course. There will be time set aside on the Sunday for Bretten to talk specifically to writers from each community who may have questions or want input on their stories.
There is a limited number of seats for this session. Pre-registration is required.
$50/FilmPEI members (check out www.filmpei.com about joining) and $110/non-members
FilmPEI has a ‘pay what you can’ policy for members. Just order a ‘donation’ ticket.
NOTE: this session is not a pre-requisite for the Film 4Ward program but is recommended especially for those emerging filmmakers expecting to apply.
