Culture PEI, in partnership with the Island Media Arts Cooperative (IMAC), is requesting proposals from consultants and consulting firms with experience building business strategies for cultural organizations and with specific knowledge of the film and television industry in Canada to create a five year strategic plan for the Island Media Arts Coop.

We are excited to announce that there will be 2 projects moving forward to the national Telefilm jury for their Micro-Budget Production Program. LOUISE LALONDE’s French language documentary Garolou a.k.a. Lougarou. And Lovely Witches Club an English Language webseries by RENEE LAPRISE and PATTI LARSEN.
Garolou a.k.a. Lougarou – LOUISE LALONDE
SYNOPSIS: In 1973 two francophone musician brothers, Michel and Marc Lalonde, made their way from Ontario to Prince Edward Island, and as many before them, discovered paradise and embraced the hippie lifestyle, touring with a children’s theatre troupe and performing on the local bar scene. Shortly after their arrival, they connected with two Island musicians and formed a French progressive rock band with a unique classical and medieval sound. The cultural and social upheaval Canadians were experiencing in the seventies paved the way for French Canadian music. They went on to make gold records and tour across Canada and as far away as Europe, even opening for Super Tramp and touring with the likes of Zacharie Richard and Joe Cocker. The band members went their separate ways in 1983 and reunited for a brief tour in the early 90’s, releasing a live album. This is their story.
“Louise came to me to talk about how she could apply with a French language film but the closest French language partner was NBFilmCoop. So I talked to Telefilm and was thrilled when they gave us last minute French partner status. Louise has had a busy year having received funding from Canada 150 for her documentary ‘Food for Victory’. Next year we hope other French language filmmakers may apply. We are able to recommend a webseries and a feature film so lots of opportunities! Congratulations Louise and good luck!”

“We were delighted with the quality of the submissions,” says IMAC president Nils Ling. “All the teams submitting took the process really seriously. But the LWC presentation had it all – a rock solid creative team, intriguing story, high quality trailer and pitch video, and a far reaching marketing strategy. We are fairly confident this project will be the second Island production to get major Telefilm funding.”

IMAC in partnership with the Advisory Council on the Status of Women will be screening the work of 16 women at 7pm on March 8, 2016 at the Guild in Charlottetown. Tickets are $10 plus service charge and will be going back to the filmmakers as a screening fee.
As a ramp up to this IMAC did interviews with several woman filmmakers – you can see those on our youtube channel!
Come join us Thursday, February 11 at City Cinema for the 7:00pm screening of youth.
We will gather together as a group afterward and head to an agreed upon location for a drink and a chat about the film! Those who attend the discussion will be entered in a draw to win two City Cinema tickets. So come join us!

NOTE: more workshops will be added throughout the year.
Want to make a feature with Telefilm? Here’s how to qualify for their Micro-Budget Production Program (up to $127,500 from Telefilm).
The process is two-tiered. As a partner in this program IMAC is asked to recommend 1 feature film and 1 webseries project in English language and 1 feature film and 1 webseries project in French language. In order to do this fairly all submissions are reviewed by an IMAC jury. The filmmakers selected are then given notes to improve their application and that application along with a recommendation letter from IMAC are sent to the Telefilm jury where the final decision is made. Winners are typically notified by mid April.
The deadline for the IMAC jury is Jan 18th, 2016. Please fill out the intake form and include with submission to director@imac.coop.

In 2014 IMAC’s application to this fund was accepted and two IMAC members, Jason Rogerson (Producer) and Harmony Wagner (Director) were successful in securing funding for their low-budget feature film ‘Kooperman’ which is currently on the festival circuit.
